Following another cooked breakfast we donned our damp shoes and helmets in preparation for what we expected to be another hilly day from Devon in to Somerset and then up to Bristol.
The day started with us heading to Wellington, Taunton and then Bridgwater on the A38. The weather during this spell of our trip was pretty good despite the forecast. We risked stopping in Bridgwater for a snack and then carried on the A39 towards Glastonbury and headed towards Cheddar.
Our route to Cheddar took us through Cocklake, a place where the village signs were ominously absent. We then skirted around Cheddar and up to Shipham in an attempt to miss the hills of Cheddar Gorge. Unfortunately we still had a steep climb up to the outskirts of Bristol. This is when the rain started to fall and we started getting wet. Once again.
We headed in to Bristol over the Clifton Suspension Bridge after heading through Congresbury. We then descended in to the city centre to our accommodation for the evening. Following a decent three course meal we retired to our rooms to prepare for what is expected to be the easiest of our twelve days. The weather also looks to be improving so, fingers-crossed, we might have a proper cyclist’s tan by the end of the trip.
