Day 4, from Bristol to Inkberrow, promised to be the easiest day of the ride. We ascended out of Bristol, and took the A38 along an unpleasant rush-hour dual carriageway. After we passed the M5 junction, the road became single carriageway, and much less stressful to ride on. The surface quality wasn’t great, but Mike led us at a decent speed for the relatively flat first 30 miles through to Gloucester.
We’d encountered a few showers, but the weather had generally been kind to us. Unfortunately, one particularly heavy and sustained downpour in Tewkesbury marred the day. After a couple of minutes of the storm, we found some shelter under a tree. We were already soaked, but it was too dangerous to cycle on main roads with such limited visibility.
After the rain subsided, the weather was fair all the way into Inkberrow. The minor roads were a welcome break from the boring busy A-roads. We made sure we overtook the final few cyclists we saw at speed, before rolling into our accommodation at about 3.

John i hope your shorts are providing you adequate protection and the unsightly bulge that was displayed in the national press has now subsided.
