This Weekend Mike Discovers Just How Uncomfortable Wet Cycling Shorts Are...

As it was my Birthday last weekend I treated myself to only cycling 55 miles. This meant there was to be no slacking this weekend, whatever the weather...

Saturday saw me venture up towards the edge of Exmoor before turning back towards Taunton and then back home. I started by heading through Crewkerne and Chard on the A30. I continued on the A30 to Yarcombe where my arrival was greeted by a group of cows wandering the streets and a little old lady nonchalantly sweeping dirt from one side of the road to the other(!) I decided that this was my cue to get out of Devon and so returned to Somerset on the B3170 towards Taunton...

Once in Taunton I headed towards Wellington on the A38 and then went North through Milverton and Wiveliscombe. Then the heavens opened. Out of despair I decided to hide in the public conveniences (certainly not one of Wiveliscombe's hot spots) while the rain steadied. When the downpour had passed I headed up towards Elworthy where I seemingly caught up with the rain. Upon returning to Taunton I discovered that it hadn't rained there at all, which cheered me up!

The voyage up to Exmoor was a total of 87 miles and can be viewed, as usual, on the Sports Tracker website.

Sunday was a much nicer day and I spent it doing the Taunton Rotary Club's 50 50 Cycle Ride with some work colleagues. It was nice to cycle at a leisurely pace for once and the 30 mile route was a perfect warm down after Saturday's adventure.
