Mike and John's Sheffield Cycling Weekend - Day 1

With us living at opposite ends of the country, there are limited opportunities for us to cycle together. I made the trip down to Yeovil at Easter so we could spend a couple of days cycling. Now it was the turn of Mike to make the trip up to Sheffield to spend Friday and Saturday cycling on a couple of routes that I had prepared.

I decided we'd head out into the Peak District to get some training on hills. We headed out to Buxton via Hathersage, Bradwell and Dove Holes. From Buxton we headed to Bakewell via Monyash, then climbed out of Bakewell on the A6, leaving at Blackwell. We cycled back through Tideswell, Eyam and Grindleford before descending back into Sheffield.

Unfortunately, it rained almost all day. There was a fair amount of wind, too. It's always helpful to train in these sort of conditions, but I hope we don't see these sort of conditions frequently in July. I got a puncture in my back tyre (which I've now replaced), which took our journey time to nearly 6.5 hours. The ride was just over 71 miles.

Check out the
Sports Tracker site for some more stats on the ride. The max speed statistic is way off, though!

In the afternoon we tried Decathlon, J.E James and Halfords for some corporate sponsorship, but have had no success at present. I'll email a few more places next week to see if we can sort something out.
